Aboriginal Visual Arts (AVA)

Aboriginal Visual Arts (AVA) is a unique program in Canada, designed by the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design (NBCCD) to provide students with a foundation in the visual arts and skill development in Mi'kmaq, Maliseet and Passamaquoddy craft.

The two and half year curriculum introduces students to Aboriginal Visual Arts practice, theory and history, and explores both contemporary and traditional arts.  Students will gain hands-on experience via project-based courses in a broad range of art, craft and design disciplines that all feature an entrepreneurial focus.  Students taking this program also have the opportunity to exit after completing one year, with a Certificate and move into a different studio or design lab offered at the College.

As students progress in their studies, students will generate a personal portfolio of artwork, documenting course projects and professional development.  Students can use their portfolio to apply for further studies at the College or at other leading institutions, for employment, or to establish your own small business.

The College campus is located downtown Fredericton, a designated Cultrual Capital of Canada.  A campus library and store, and nearby bookstores, boutiques, cafes and art galleries help create an inspiring and supportive learning environment.
