Fine Craft
For thousands of
years, functional and stylish handcrafted objects have been made in
Asia, Europe and among our own First Nations people.
Today, not
only is modern Canadian fine craft influenced by this rich history, it
has established a strong presence on the international scene. Many
craftspeople also see their work as a counterpoint to an increasingly
industrialized society, celebrating important personal values in the
beauty of a hand-made object.
Here you will experience a learning
environment that focuses on designing and producing fine craft, in
various media. This work is invariably cutting-edge and reflects the
highest standards of workmanship. So you’ll be encouraged to create
original work that is innovative in creativity, its vision and use of
materials.
In our Diploma program you’ll choose a studio major –
Ceramics, Jewellery and Metal Arts, or Textiles (this includes
book-making, felt-making, paper-making, surface design and weaving).
Course work will reflect your own creativity and demonstrate both your
critical abilities and your craftsmanship.
