All our programs have a
strong
entrepreneurial focus to prepare you for marketing your work in
Fredericton and throughout Atlantic Canada. By the time you graduate you
will think of yourself as a designer-maker, driven to earn your
livelihood by your creativity; indeed, many graduates are successful
entrepreneurs and make a good living from their work.
We
define design as the
process of making something that combines high levels of creative
problem-solving; a strong understanding of communication and production
technologies; and an awareness of the needs of clients and end-users.
Design
is an integral but often undervalued part of our world, from the layout
of newspapers and magazines we read, the cars we drive, the supermarket
labels that influence how we spend our money (oh, and that’s designed
too).
At the College of Craft & Design, as our name implies,
design is incorporated into all our programs and studio disciplines.
However, we also offer specialized options in Graphic Design and
Integrated Media, where you’ll be directly involved in creating visual
identities, print publications and interactive websites.
Course
content includes techniques in problem-solving, traditional design
skills and challenging, computer-driven projects. You’ll work with text
and visuals, colour and composition, building your own design portfolio
to demonstrate your understanding of professional practices.
